We are delighted to premiere the mesmerising new video for the track ‘Point The Guard’ from Melbourne-based artist Local the Neighbour (the work of Taiwanese/Australian artist David Quested). There’s a delightful ambulatory flow to the track which eases along inside the brain like sliding down a slippery slide, emitting golden rays of joy. With a pace and tone that recalls an amalgam between Bruce Springsteen and Arcade Fire, the heart achingly beautiful romanticism shimmers and shines like a dappling swimming pool reflection – I’m going to let down my guard, but only with you. Quested says of the track:

Point Guard is about the gratitude and hopes you have for your loved one. To me it’s about my girlfriend, but at the end of the day it’s about anyone you love and find comfort in being vulnerable with – whether it be a friend, partner, family, or stranger on the street. For me it’s tough to do that, so I’m glad I have someone I can do that with!”

The shaky home shot video is suffuse with golden sunshine and the ambelings of happy romantic couple (Quested and his girlfriend, who both also made the video) – filled with the charming chaos and spontaneity we all experience when in love – with an air of innocence and freedom. With the bouncing ball lyrics, the bucolic scenery and the unadulterated joy of the protagonists, it is a very special video for a very special track:

‘Point The Guard’ is out tomorrow (Wednesday, 18 May 2022) and available through all the usual download and streaming sites.

Quested is a Melbourne based musician originally from Darwin, Northern Territory. After moving to
Melbourne to study jazz drumming, he became infatuated with the love of self expression and boundary-less creativity found in the art form. Since then he has performed with ARIA award winning jazz musicians, studied in both New York and Los Angeles with jazz giants, and toured internationally as a sideman. He is clearly also extremely adept at crafting delicious dream pop delights with a fresh and radiant indie flavour.
