Southern California post-hardcore outfit Movements are preparing to release their fourth studio album, Happier Now, on 4 September via Fearless Records. Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled new single ‘Separate’, an emotionally charged closer that offers another glimpse into what promises to be their most reflective record yet.
If recent singles ‘Dissolve Me’ and ‘Back In My Ways’ established the emotional landscape of Happier Now, ‘Separate’ reaches its deepest point. Built around taut, angular guitars and the band’s trademark balance of melody and tension, the track confronts the instinct to retreat when life’s pressures become overwhelming. Rather than searching for easy answers, vocalist Patrick Miranda explores the paralysis that comes with creative exhaustion and emotional burnout, transforming deeply personal struggles into one of the album’s most affecting moments.
Miranda describes the song as a reflection of a difficult period during the album’s creation, when creative friction, internal conflict and the pressure to make something meaningful left him questioning whether he had anything left to give. Instead of resisting those feelings, ‘Separate’ documents the urge to disconnect completely from the source of that weight, making it one of the band’s most vulnerable releases to date.
Produced once again by GRAMMY Award-winning producer Will Yip, Happier Now sees Movements reconnecting with the foundations of their sound while embracing the broader sonic palette introduced on 2023’s RUCKUS!. The result is an album that bridges the urgency of their early work with the confidence of a band now firmly established as one of post-hardcore’s defining modern voices.
The announcement follows a busy period for Movements, who recently returned to Australia supporting Pierce The Veil on their sold-out national arena tour and are set to embark on a U.S. headline run later this year with Balance and Composure, Midrift and NIIS. Nearly a decade after breaking through, Happier Now finds the quartet continuing to evolve while remaining rooted in the emotional honesty that has long defined their music.
