Nearly two decades after first emerging as one of metalcore’s most reliable heavyweights, Miss May I are preparing to open a new chapter. The Ohio quartet have announced their eighth studio album, No Place For Me, due October 2 via Solid State Records, alongside the release of its emotionally charged new single, ‘Sanctuary’.
Where previous singles have leaned into the band’s trademark blend of punishing riffs and soaring hooks, ‘Sanctuary’ turns inward. Frontman Levi Benton describes the track as an exploration of self-sabotage, confronting the uncomfortable realisation that the search for safety can often be undermined by the person seeking it. Rather than offering easy resolution, the song sits with that conflict, transforming personal struggle into a cathartic metalcore anthem.
That emotional honesty runs throughout No Place For Me. Benton has described the record as the most revealing of the band’s career, explaining that writing the album forced him to confront parts of himself he had long avoided. The result is a record that traces a journey through doubt, anxiety and intrusive thoughts before arriving at a clearer understanding of identity and resilience.
Since forming in 2007, Miss May I have remained one of modern metalcore’s most consistent voices. Breakthrough album At Heart introduced the band to a wider audience, while Deathless, Shadows Inside and 2022’s critically acclaimed Curse Of Existence reinforced their reputation for marrying technical precision with emotional weight. Along the way, they have shared stages with Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive and Motionless In White while building a catalogue that has amassed hundreds of millions of streams.
No Place For Me also marks Miss May I’s first release through Solid State Records, signalling a fresh era for a band that continues to evolve without losing sight of the intensity that first defined them. If ‘Sanctuary’ is any indication, the quartet remain just as capable of pairing crushing heaviness with deeply personal songwriting as they enter their next chapter.
