Premiere: Naomi In Blue reveals the beautiful country tinged folk of her debut EP, An Experiment

British-Chilean singer-songwriter Naomi In Blue is gearing up for the release of her debut EP, An Experiment, this coming Sunday (28th February) via Walking Blacksmith Records, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today.

Mixing up the more experimental (but no less melodic) side of Americana, Naomi wrote and recorded the tracks in London, before they were sent over to Abbey Road for mastering.

The EP stretches over four songs, each a little vignette on life, all of them blessed with a braveness and brevity. The melodies wind and pull at your emotions, as they encompass everything form melancholy to regret, to innocence, to reality.

Colour of Blue has this astonishing weight to it, not just in the words but the melodies and arrangements, whereas follow on ‘Drunk Again’ has this starkness and emotive quality about it, the pedal steel arching and aching over the top. Over the top, Naomi In Blue breaks hearts as she sings, “I’m sorry love, I drowned us both that day.”

Homeless Man has this simplicity about it, with a stripped back accompaniment, while closer Bottom of My Glass is a fitting ending. Covering English folk-rock whilst nodding towards a psychedelic air, its able to transport you somewhere away from the norm.

Beautiful stuff – check it out, here

‘An Experiment’ is released on 28 February on Walking Blacksmith Records.
