One of the most exciting young antipodean outfits around at the moment, the inimitable Postcards From Pluto, today bless us with an early listen to their new track ‘Chocolate’. It’s been six months too long since we cast our ears over ‘Arcade’ (read our review here) and after a line up change, they are back with a melodic vengeance.
‘Chocolate’ has a driving delicious glam rock fuzz with singer Atlas Kilbey’s louche, insouciant delivery, an arched brow, hand on hips, vocals quivering with emotion. It’s über cool and studied, enigmatic and bold, swaggering with a gait ten kilometers wide.
Kilbey says of the track:
I wrote Chocolate after lockdown in high school, reminiscing on the fleeting love I had during that time. Playing into the nostalgia of a first love, and its ever evanescent nature.
How much the recipient of such melodic devotion would rue the day they let this one go. It’s a track packed full of yearning and sonic thrills, and one of the contenders for singles of the year in my book.
‘Chocolate’ is out tomorrow and available via all the usual download sites.
You can catch the band supporting Kilbey’s dad in the legendary The Crystal Set, one of the most mind blowing line ups ever, with the equally illustrious Alannah Russack (Hummingbirds, Aerial Maps, Entropy Band) playing as well. Details below. I feel a Sydney trip coming up. Watch out too for another Kilbey offspring, Marlon, with his band Chute on the horizon.
