Premiere: Stream Careful’s first new music in a decade, the ‘Promise/Practice’ EP

Back in June, Eric Lindley resumed releasing music as Careful after taking a hiatus from the project following 2014 album The world doesn’t end. His first new release since then picks up where he left off nine years ago as if no time had passed.

Of course, a lot can happen in nearly a decade, and Lindley’s now a father, meaning he had to put his music on ice for a little while – he could have easily chosen not to get back to it, and we’re glad he did, not least because we get to share his new seven-song EP with you early.

In addition to that, Lindley’s releasing a video for one of the title tracks and its opener, previously released as a single, featuring collaging and projection by Miwa Matreyek, as well as live dance from Lisa Gelley & Company 605: “Miwa and I have been friends and collaborators on various projects ever since we met in school years ago. Back in July she had the opportunity to work with Lisa Gelley and Company 605 and asked me to provide music. This was a very personally meaningful song for me, but it’s such a hard topic to make work about, I wasn’t totally sure at first that it was the right song for a collaboration. But in the end I think that Miwa, Lisa, and Company 605 ended up making something so much more powerful than the song itself. Watching it still makes me cry.”

Check both of those out below; the Promise/Practice EP is out tomorrow.
