Premiere: TUSHAR’s ‘Bloodshot Eyes’ is an effervescent pop delight dealing with darker issues. Tour dates announced.

We are honoured to premiere the new single ‘Bloodshot Eyes’ from Tarndanya/Adelaide-based indie-pop artist TUSHAR – produced by long-time collaborator Benny Tamblyn (MANE) and mastered by Mario Späte (Meg Washington, Tkay Maizda, Elsy Wameyo).

‘Bloodshot Eyes’ has an effervescent trot with plonking, dappling guitars and a high-stepping canter. TUSHAR’s voice is velvet soft, yearning and smooth over the soaring chorus and a snaky smooth bass. This is the sound of an indolent lazy summer afternoon with a filtered sunlight and a gentle breeze. And yet, antithetically, the lyrics reveal a darker side – I don’t want to talk with you no more – adding a certain frisson and dramatic tension to the bright skipping delivery.

Indeed the inspiration for the track came from an unpleasant experience:

I walked into a session with my producer/friend, Benny. Before we started writing, he told me about an experience he had over the weekend with an aggressive person. We dove into the story, and how he had met this guy at a party for the first time. What seemed like an okay guy, quickly turned into an angry, hyper masculine person looking for a fight.

Benny said to me that he just didn’t want to ‘talk to him anymore’ but didn’t know how to tell him nicely without angering him. Six hours later, the song was written, recorded and finished!

There is a delicate sheen to the vocals and a pop sensibility that creates movement and light:

TUSHAR recently performed at notable music event SXSW (USA) sharing the stage with King Stingray, Floodlights and Annie Hamilton. Along with this, he sold-out his previous headline show and will be supporting MANE on her upcoming national tour.

He was was recently nominated for the ‘People’s Choice Award’ (Pop) in the 2023 South Australian Music Awards. Previous releases have been widely embraced by triple j, triple j Unearthed and Australian community radio stations.

‘Bloodshot Eyes’ will be available worldwide on Friday, October 27 through all the usueal download and streaming sites.
