Warmduscher are a group of miscreants, known only by aliases (Clams Baker Jr, Lightnin’ Jack Everett, Salt Fingers, Quicksand and Dr. Withers aka Little Whiskers). With esteemed fans such as Iggy Pop and Marc Riley only ever heapong praise on the band, they have gained an unrivalled cult status and are always a big hit in Manchester. Being treated to such an intimate, and long sold out, show at Salford’s White Hotel takes them back to the beginning but with a vastly lengthed set list.
Opening to rapture with ‘Top Shelf’ the bass riff rips through the crowd and sets feet instantly a tapping. Then we are faced with the heady trio of ‘Whale City’, ‘Standing on the Corner’ and ‘Midnight Dipper’ which frankly don’t give you time to think. Everyone loves this combination and reacts in the way only way you can to them, by dancing unashamedly. The irony and tongue in cheek humour of ‘Burner’ always sees fans shouting back at them and ‘Salamander’ as its name suggests is a slippy customer whose notes slip through the pack room.
2024’s ‘Staying Alive’ sets the tone for what is undoubtedly their anthem from 2019’s Tainted Lunch, ‘Disco Peanuts’ leaves the crowd breathless and smiling from ear to ear. ‘1000 Whispers’ adds a slight reprieve, before ‘Cleopatra’s’ and ‘Hotshot’ boost things right back into the fast lane. Always dance worthy, tonight is no exception for ‘Eight Minute Machines’ from 2022 LP At The Hotspot and they conclude with ‘I Got Friends’ whose insanely catchy countenance sees the whole room ‘ooh ooping’ (if you know, you know). They bow out to rapturous applause from the crowd who appreciate how special that set really was, and to see this band now in this size venue is really something special.
A three track encores is over all to soon, concluding with ‘Big Wilma’. The crowd are baying for more and that is what this band do to you, the Warmduscher effect is real.
