News: Showtime – Showroom Announces 20th Anniversary Appeal

2015 marks the 20th anniversary of one of the UK’s most loved independent cinemas. The Showroom first opened her doors back in 1995, and has become a much-loved part of the cultural landscape of Sheffield. Her dedication to independent and world cinema has been unrelenting, as has the commitment to hosting special events and running educational programs. Home of the Film Hub North and host to several festivals including Doc/Fest, the Showroom plays a vital role in Northern cinematic landscape.

Let’s face it though, however much we love her, she’s seen better days. So, to mark two decades of entertaining others, the Showroom are running a year long fundraising campaign to raise £250,000 for refurbishment and to expand their live events. This is to improve the customer experience and ensure we can all comfortably enjoy wonderful cinema for years to come.

Ben Roberts, Director of the BFI Film Fund said:

“The Showroom is one of the UK’s foremost cultural cinemas and as the lead organisation for Film Hub North, it plays a key role in the BFI Film Audience Network, helping to boost audiences for specialised and independent British film across the north of England.

“With its diverse and lively cinema programme, home to the fantastic Doc/Fest and with a proud legacy of delighting film audiences in Sheffield and beyond, the BFI has been a supporter of Showroom since its earliest days and we look forward to seeing this iconic building being given a well-deserved refurbishment, ready for the decades to come.”

Special events and films to celebrate the anniversary will be announced throughout the year. To find out more, visit their website.
