When writing my long planned magnum opus on the chemical formula for a jolly good pop song, due reference will be made to tunes such as ‘Just Say It’ from the wonderfully named Approachable Members Of Your Local Community. The present ingredients in this bubbly, effervescent track are a dash of sweetness (but not so much as to be saccharine), a hint of melancholy, with a sprinkle of sunshine all poured over indelible melodies. ‘Just Say’s is a luminescent, buoyant and highly charming mix that results in a delicious pop song with a lingering aftertaste. Sung by Sage, their newest recruit, this is a treat.
The band says of the track:
In this interconnected world, with computers and the NBN, one thing is clear to the Members: now is the time for the nimble communicator; the reformist collaborator. Don’t bottle things up. Just say how you feel. We can change, and quickly – what we do, who we see, what we care about. But how do you keep your friends along for the journey? When people start to feel insecure in a relationship and turn things over in their head, things can get out of hand. ‘Just Say It’ is about that tension – and breaking through it, the only way the Community knows how: honest and open communication.
The home made video accompanying the song is suitably whimsical and joyous. The band says:
As you can see, we made a video. We agree, it’s incredible. You can Just Say It, it’s fine. We put it together the second restrictions lifted. Sage found an old camera lying around her place and Sam got to work on his moves – the twirl, the pivot-zoom, and his signature ‘sprint at you with the camera.’ It’s our first clip that’s completely home-spun, and we think it might just light a fire that burns for one thousand years – a fire of groove.
What is abundantly clear is that Approachable Members Of Your Local Community are zesty and fresh with a healthy dose of good humour:
