Track: Betty Taylor are ‘Stallin”- a bright and breezy journey into the pop hinterland – as they announce signing to new label Hello Gardener and launch date.

From the sunshine capital of Australia, Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Betty Taylor is no single entity but rather the fusion of duo Sophie Patrick and Kayla Smart (AKA Dorah Jacson). The collaboration has resulted in a bright and breezy jangling gem with a confusion of quotation marks, ‘Stallin”.

Mountainous choruses and scything sparkling guitars collude to create a delightful melodic ray of sunshine that has echoes of Sharon Van Etten with its hyperactivity and bounce. As with any good pop song, there is a frisson of yearning and melancholy threaded throughout, a waft of alt country twang and an infectious ebullience.

The accompanying video, directed by Fynn Widdicombe, Sophie Patrick and Eliza Menzel, has captured a sense of untrammelled joy amusingly contrasting a bedroom karaoke performance with the real thing and a dash of unrequited desire:

‘Stallin” is out now and available to stream and download here. Betty Taylor have also announced their signing to new record label Hello Gardener.

Betty Taylor will be launching the single on Friday, 25 November 22 at Olè, Noosa QLD – details and tickets here. The live band includes Claire Chittick on bass and Katie Ishaque on drums.
