If you’ve been party to Bicep’s recent DJ sets, you’ll no doubt have heard new single Atlas before. Out now digitally and available on April 3rd on 12” vinyl via the ever brilliant Ninja Tune imprint, the new single is their first new music since 2018’s Rain EP.
Of the track Matt and Andy say “It would’ve been unthinkable to foresee the circumstances this track would be released in when we were making it. Our frame of mind was so positive then, fresh off the back of our live tour, full of excitement for the next phase. ‘Atlas’ was our attempt at summing up some of the euphoric moments we experienced on that tour across those two years. It feels like those moments are very far away for all of us right now, but we hope this serves as some form of distraction amidst all this chaos.”
There’s an echoey, almost eastern feel to the track at its outset, the vocal sample being soaked in effects over these foggy synth sounds over broken beats. It builds over the course of its six minute duration to a euphoric high before dying away. And breathe.
