Kenyan-Australian artist Brazen Barbie returns today with Ain’t No Dummy, a new single and video lifted from her forthcoming 12-track mixtape BRAZEN, set for release on August 1.
The new track sees Brazen Barbie navigating the intersection of self-awareness and contradiction — a theme she leans into with deliberate flair. “It’s about knowing better and still doing it anyway, but on your terms,” she says. Built on a foundation of playful, layered production by MixedByDaniel and David Arcade, Ain’t No Dummy combines sharp flows with a fusion of R&B, hip hop, and rap that nods to icons like Missy Elliot and Eve without falling into imitation.
Visually, the track arrives with a new clip created in collaboration with artist NBreezy. The video leans into hyper-femininity and the “bimbo-coded” aesthetic, reflecting the song’s commentary on being underestimated. “It’s fun and animated on the surface, but there’s intention behind everything,” Brazen Barbie explains.
The single follows a series of standout releases including CHECK and DON’T TALK, tracks that have cemented Brazen Barbie as a distinctive voice in Australian music, balancing punchy lyricism with a flair for vulnerability and reinvention.
Her upcoming mixtape BRAZEN promises to be a self-portrait in motion — a project that merges confidence, resilience, and a diary-like openness across a range of moods and sounds.
With performances at SXSW, BIGSOUND, Promiseland and Sydney Fringe under her belt — and as a member of Acclaim Magazine’s All Stars Class of ’24 — Brazen Barbie’s return with Ain’t No Dummy sets the stage for her next chapter: one grounded in range, depth and self-definition.
