Crows are a force of nature live. Gathering a loyal fanbase since forming in 2015, they are set to release their second album Beware Believers on 1 April 2022 via Bad Vibrations Records and have announced tour dates in UK and Europe in support of its release. In advance of this they have released new single ‘Slowly Separate‘.

Crows frontman James Cox says of the track: “Slowly Separate is about living in London, working a job you hate and just going through the mundane routine of hand to mouth living. Don’t get me wrong, I love London. It’s been my home for 13 years, and this song translates to any city and anytime you’re working a job that doesn’t fulfil you. When it gets to the end of the month, all your rent and bills come out and you’re barely left with enough to get through the next month. It gets to you, I’m sure a lot of people can relate. It just makes it sweeter when you are finally making changes in your life for the better and you can leave those feelings in the past.”

Its a thunderous track full of density but with a pounding beat throughout which grabs and holds tight. The repetition in the instrumentation highlights the mundane routine of modern life which wears you down, particularly if trapped in an unfulfilling job which underpays for the cost of city life.

The lyrics emphasize this banality, over and over and over:

“Again, again, again, Feel the disconnect
Again, again, again, Feel indifferent
Again, again, again, Slowly separate
Again, again, again, again, again”

In ‘Slowly Separate‘ Crows are expressing a desire to break free of this type of lifestyle. They acknowledge the impact and damage it does and the toil it takes. It’s a theme that many will relate to and the 4-piece have provided the perfect vehicle to passionately shout about it, as if to shake us up out of its hold. The key change about two thirds through ramps up the pace and suggests rebellion as “I’m tired of always staying the same“.

Tickets for the tour go on sale on Monday 17 January at 10am and can be bought here.
