Track: Esben And The Witch – The Well

Sophie Fox

Esben & The Witch have shared the first single from their recently announced new album ‘Old Sacred’ to be released on 12th May via Nostromo Records. Titled ‘The Well’ the track is an eerie, echoey meditation on the experience of depression.

“A voice echoing from the bottom of a well. A call from a chamber, from within oneself, to summon the strength to climb out of the darkness, when it seems impossible.”

Rachel Davies explains:

“To call upon things often deemed frightening and to change your perception of said demons in order to survive. To build a ladder of light to aid your own escape.”

A somewhat spiritual offering hangs on the haunting vocals from Davies. The music enters and enhances those striking vocals with the gentle soundscape the band have crafted. It’s a soft introduction to the band’s new music but one that’s bound to get their fans excited. No one quite makes music like Esben And The Witch.
