Track: Folly Group release the vibrant punk-funk of Paying The Price

Newly signed to Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour – a label that jumped on early releases by the likes of Sofia Kourtesis, Elkka, Octo Octa and others, London band Folly Group have shared a new track ’Paying the Price’ taken from their upcoming second EP ’Human and Kind’, out on March 25th.

Of the track, the bands Sean Harper says “‘Paying The Price’ loosely documents commuting. Louis wrote the title/hook (“Paying the price, shame it feels so nice”) and to me it summarised the questions so many London residents have for themselves: “This place is toxic, awful people are everywhere, literally everything feels like a competition, the endless demands the cost of living in this city imposes upon me are making me a more stressed out, confused, paranoid, depressed person. Why do I love it here?”

It’s a meeting of post-punk and funk minds, with this pulsating, suggestive bassline and gluey synth interjections sitting alongside these wiry, spidery guitar lines and off-kilter – half spoken lyrics. As they bleed together the whole thing winds up into a whirlwind of glorious sound.
