London-based alt-folk singer-songwriter, producer and artist Freya Everest has released the beautiful new single ‘Honey TV’, a stunning, beautifully arranged and emotionally impactful track that highlights the solo artist’s full potential.
Offering a warm, dreamlike piece of folk-infused songwriting built around delicate, strummed nylon-string guitar, cello, upright piano and minimal, abstract lyricism, the track balances a sound palette comparable to Sufjan Stevens with the emotional weight of Phoebe Bridgers.
Rooted in the intimacy of its acoustic instrumentation, ‘Honey TV’ finds Everest leaning into a more traditional folk sound, whilst bringing a flourishing, offbeat and playful undercurrent through layered vocals and nuanced musical ideas.
“Honey TV was written using magnetic poetry” Freya explains. “I was playing around with the words when the line ‘here by the honey TV’ emerged. I wondered what that could mean, what might a TV made of Honey represent? To me it was sweet, decadent peace.
There is a magical charm to these moments. I imagine the loving energies present creating a protective shield around you.”
The result is a track that is warming, comforting and intimate. Heartfelt and melancholic yet chilled and ethereal, ‘Honey TV’ sounds very much like an artist who has found herself, despite this being only Freya’s second release to date.
Everest’s multidisciplinary approach is central to her wider artistic identity. Her music draws together alt-folk, jazz, art pop and electronic influences, combining organic instrumentation with experimental production to create mellow, immersive soundscapes.
Her forthcoming EP project continues this exploration, drawing on visual art and personal experience to examine themes including gender, power, love, loss and freedom. A graduate of the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, Everest has already performed at venues across London, including The Social, Strongroom, The Camden Chapel, The Finsbury and The Waiting Room.
