One of our perennial favourites here at Backseat Mafia, Maximo Park, have announced a new tour – Sïngular, taking place this Autumn, which will see the band play their entire singles collection, from ‘Apply Some Pressure’ and ‘Going Missing’ from their breakthrough debut album A Certain Trigger, to ‘All Of Me’ from their latest album Nature Always Wins, via whirlwind fan-favourites like ‘The National Health’, ’books from boxes’ and ‘Our Velocity’.

To go alongside it the band have released a new limited 7inch single ‘Great Art’. Its an inditement of ten years of right wing rule that has decimated a lot of things, including the arts industry. Singer Paul Smith explains “The song is about the insidious nature of Conservative ideology, and a response to people who say, “at least we’ll get some great art out of it!” We’re excited to have new material to play alongside our other singles on the Sïngular tour – we’ve always written songs crammed full of hooks, so that’s our ideal medium in some ways.”

If its epic, smart indie rock your looking for, with splashes of synth and a hooks to hang your proverbial hat on, then rest easy – Maximo Park never let you down on this front. Classic melodies, gorgeous harmonies resting easy against driving drums and spiky guitars while Paul Smith pokes and prods at Boris et al means its immediately up there with the best of them right now.
