The magnificent DARLING. return with another slice of Antarctic indie dream pop with their new single ‘Midnight’.

Atmospheric and frosty, ‘Midnight’ is an elegant smooth ride moving with a liquidity and velvet sheen with distant, layered vocals weaving in and out of the crystalline synths and guitars. The instrumentation cuts through the hazy drifting movements like a circling shark hanging in a deep blue sea: replete with a gothic and haunting air.

The lyrics reveal a deeps sense of alienation and melancholia that matches the ethereal march of the melody:

Voices in my head
Telling me to turn away
It’s midnight around here and I
I didn’t even know your name

This is enchanting and mesmerising stuff from Caitlin Finn (ex-Dorothy and Dog) and Joel Glazebrook (Edith Thomas Furey – a long time favourite here at Backseat Mafia):

‘Midnight’ is out today through the eternally brilliant 4000 Records and available to download and stream here.  DARLING. will be launching the single at The Bearded Lady on August 21st with support from Daylight Ghosts and Relay Tapes – details here.
