Sydney-based duo, the Polish Club will today release a new Double A Side Track ‘Boys on Vacation’ and ‘Bad Vibrations’. Known for their incendiary live performances, fans will be delighted to learn that the band will also be releasing an album, ‘Now We’re Cookin In Hell’ on 10th June.

Fresh from their recent show at the Roundhouse which was a raucous affair featuring Wiggles covers and a suitcase of moist towelettes(!), Polish Club are changing tack for their latest release. Setting aside the frivolity for a moment, the new tracks see Polish Club adding their voices to the frustration felt by many other musicians at the lack of support received from governments during the Covid and other crises.

“I think it’s inevitable that anger and political vitriol comes out in all artists’ music. I’m sure some full badass edgelord already has their unkempt fingers on their keyboards, ready to tell us that we should stick to ‘music’ and stay out of ‘things we don’t understand’. It’s none of my concern if anyone is unable to realise that essentially all music is inherently political, especially in a time where the entire industry has been left to die by the government.”

David Novak

‘BOYS ON VACATION’ bristles with indignation, it has some great chugging guitars and features an extended excoriating solo with Novak sneering the lyrics which are a thinly-veiled diatribe about Scott Morrison’s holiday in Hawaii during the 2019 Australian bush fires. It sounds like something that Boz Scaggs in a really badass mood might have written. The cover art features Novak and drummer John-Henry Pajak in full Hawaiian holiday regalia resplendent in the iconic shirts, holding cocktails and….a cat!

‘BAD VIBRATIONS’ has a ‘Nutbush City Limits’ beat that is impossible to resist. This time Novak targets the NSW State Government, singing about high property prices, trams that don’t fit tracks and ferries that are too high to sail under bridges. Even though it’s a political song, the beat and searing chugga-chugg guitar work ensure that the track will go down a treat at live concerts and on the turntable. Persisting with the Hawaiian theme, the title references the Beach Boys classic but rather than being an ode to love, the Polish Club song rebukes governmental ineptitude.

The new tracks might deliver a political message but this does not detract from the fact that they are two abrasive, hard rocking songs that feature Polish Club at their ass-kicking, take-no-prisoners best.

Both tracks were recorded at the Golden Retriever Studio in Sydney with long-time producer and bassist Wade Keighran.
