Following the release of the effervescent ‘Mousetrap’ (premiered by Backseat Mafia) , Sydney outfit A Swift Farewell are back with another sparkling piece of pop/punk joy. While eschewing the blast of their last release, A Swift Farwell showcase their ability to switch moods and tones, providing quiet reflective interludes with an anthemic chorus – all threaded through with singer Emma Mather’s glorious vocals: ranging from a soft velvety whisper cloaked in melancholy to a pop driven powerful chorus.
The heady mix between moods reflects a change from melancholy and despair to defiance:
When you said you would come It felt like the sun And though it starts to look bright I know we always burn I like you more when you’re not Trying to drag me down I said I’d carry you home But I feel less heavy alone.
A Swift Farewell have a penchant for wry self-deprecatory videos too: the visuals show a band that is not poe-faced nor take themselves too seriously: a welcome attitude indeed.
Drummer Dwayne Morris talks about the creative process for ‘Sunburn’ music video:
We initially wanted to film a live music video of us playing the song at our headline show. However, with the ever-changing situation, we had to find an alternative. Sarah, our bassist, messaged us one day and showed us a homemade green screen idea. From there, we hit up our good friend Robbie and the rest is history. It was a fun experience, especially since I got to hit my drums for the first time in god knows how long.
The result is something utterly charming;
This is the sound and vision of band having a whole lot of fun, and it is infectious.
