Track: The Rills – The Angler

‘The Angler’ is Lincoln trio The Rills first release of 2020 so far, and sets the tone for their debut EP release due later this year

Based on the waning typecast of weekend-moshers they’ve met growing-up, lead singer Mitch Spencer describes how the protagonist in ‘The Angler’ is a facade; lacking honesty, integrity, and self-awareness: “He has it all to blame but himself. The Angler is desperate to have a real connection with someone, but, when he acts like this, his life is turning to shit.”

This is classic indie. Melodic and gritty with some excellent lyrical phrasing. “I was trying to do a Joyce. Capture the universal in the specific.”  He ties visual imagery with specific cultural identities. Carrying on the tradition of great bands before them these guys have the talent and songwriting skill to go very far indeed.
