Oceanside, California horror punk trio Warish have released ‘Seeing Red’, the second single from their forthcoming second album, ‘Next to Pay’. The band formed in 2018 and are led by Riley Hawk, son of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. They released their first album, ‘Down in Flames’, in 2019. Warish cite bands including the Misfits, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Butthole Surfers, and The Jesus Lizard as influences. Hawk says ‘Seeing Red’ is about repeating patterns of destructive behaviour. Hawk really showcases his shredding abilities in a guitar solo and the track has very glossy, treble-heavy production values which won’t be to everyone’s taste, but he and bandmates Alex Bassaj and Justin de la Vega are clearly very musically literate and the song demonstrates a thoughtful approach to the horror punk sub-genre. If ‘Seeing Red’ is anything to go by, then ‘Next to Pay’ should be of interest to fans of bands like Eagles of Death Metal, FIDLAR, and Sheer Mag. It’s out via RidingEasy on April 30th.
