With links to another antipodean band we have covered in the past (Yeevs), Eora/Sydney band Team Building have just released their second single, the gentle, simmering, shimmering ‘When I Dress For You’.
Infused with a deep yearning, it is a beautiful track that sparkles with a languid flowing instrumentation. The band says the track:
…examines workwear and its underlying expectations. A steadying rhythm of hofner bass and folk-inflected percussion drive the song, supporting a guitar melody that gently spirals between hopefulness and intimidation. The lyrics similarly move between being bemused and baffled, speaking to a tension of wanting to present oneself to the world without fear of judgement.
Clothing can cover us up but it can also reveal who we really are – for better or worse.
There is an antipodean flavour to the delivery and vocals, with lyrics that reflect uncertainty and anxiety:
If I was taught, how to stay ahead, how do you know where you’re lead?
What could be given, that I couldn’t get? Who could forget what’s forgiven?
All things in motion, more than moderation
How did I get here? How do I leave the station? How do I leave the station?!
It’s a gorgeous track that evokes long lazy summer afternoons relishing in a sweet melancholia:
‘When I Dress For You’ is out today and you can download and stream through the link above and here.
