EP: At the Drive-In stream Diamanté EP

Previously only available on 10″ vinyl, El Paso five piece At the Drive-In have made their Diamanté EP available digitally ahead of their UK headline tour dates this March. Thus new tracks Anid Ethics, Despondent at High Noon and Point of Demarkation – recorded at Clouds Hill Studio in Hamburg, Germany in the summer of 2017, are are now available for streaming, although if you still want the EP on limited edition bone mint vinyl, head over to the band’s website: https://www.atthedriveinofficialmerch.com

The EP opens with One Armed Scissor, this bubbling ball on punk energy, with some brilliant dual vocals, the calm and the storm. Underneath, there’s this mix of guitar lines that penetrate and muscle their way through, coated in effects and primed to cause havoc. The crunching chords of Despondant at High Noon follow on, as it feels on the edge of falling apart – as things drop out and the bass and drums take the lead. As it hits the chorus the jagged guitar lines fill out the sound and then drill their way through with razor sharp melodic lines. The EP closes with Point of Demarkation, as the band throw themselves at the mercy of our electronic overlords, these dark synth/bass lines giving the band a whole new sound. As it progresses it slowly pulls apart at the seems, the guitars cutting through, the shards of melody almost falling around them as they probe. It’s classy stuff.
