EP: King Britt – Back2Black

Philadelphia’s King Britt has been busy on Monty Lukes Berlin-based label Black Catalogue label recently, releasing Chasing Rainbows under his Fhloston Paradigm alias, and working as producer on his label bosses Hard Work Not Hype LP, but now he’s back under his own name and steam with a two track EP ‘Back2Black’

Sprawling pads and this skittish bassline set the scene in the title track, giving way to this house beat, before coming to the fore, as it gains a harshness at the edges. As it continues so it flowers, as 808 claps and sprawling beats join, giving way to acid and experimental influences.

TooShay has a different vibe altogether, more hard faced and minimal for a start, the beats giving it a introspective techno feel. As it hits its stride though, so little melodic fragments play off against eachother, twisting and weaving in and out the mix, giving it this rather lovely but increasingly wonky feeling.
