Set against the backdrop of the achingly chic Paris of the 1960’s, the film depicts the relationship between Godard – leading voice of the Nouvelle Vague – and his younger wife Anne Wiazemsky, a budding actress.

After the poor reception to his latest film, La Chinoise, unleashes a profound self-examination in Godard, his relationship with his leading lady is put to the test as the revolutionary events of May ’68 threatens to tear them apart.

Redoubtable is in cinemas from 11 May.
