Ride are appearing at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre tonight, and the air is thick with anticipation. Pioneers of the shoegaze movement, the band first emerged from Oxford in 1988, and since then, they’ve shaped the genre with a series of groundbreaking albums. Their latest release, ‘Interplay,’ has garnered critical acclaim, securing a 9.2 rating and a spot among Backseat Mafia’s top albums of 2024 and the Guardian calling it their “most adult album yet.”

As the lights dim and Ride step into the spotlight, the crowd’s excitement is palpable—and from the first note, the band more than delivers. Faces around me are illuminated with bliss as Ride expertly navigate through their sonic history, proving not only their shoegaze roots but also their relentless drive to push the boundaries of their sound, blending the nostalgic with the cutting-edge.
