Track: Hannah Cohen – Lilacs (Hidden Fees Remix)

After just finishing a run of shows with the Modfather Paul Weller, singer-songwriter Hannah Cohen has handed her track Lilacs over to Brooklyn duo Hidden Fees, aka DJ Ivan Sunshine and guitarist Thomas Gluibizzi.

Taken from Cohen’s second album Pleasure Boy, written in the midst of break-ups and anxiety, but Hidden Fees have put a different take on Lilacs. As Cohen comments, “This remix is especially fascinating to me because it’s not even close to what I was thinking of for the tone of music to accompany the lyrics when I was writing the original.”

Its give this smart, 80s soul workout by the Brooklyn duo, pushing things along with this wiry funk guitar line which noodles away before cascading over the chorus, while another guitar works in tandem win the bassline. Over the top, Hannah Cohen’s vocal soars delicately between the gaps

Lovely stuff.
