After more than a decade away, Avenged Sevenfold return to Australia this October, stepping back into arenas with the kind of scale that has defined their rise over the past two decades. It’s their first run of shows on these shores in 12 years, and the sense of absence has only sharpened the anticipation.
Formed in Huntington Beach in 1999, the band — fronted by M. Shadows alongside guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates, bassist Johnny Christ and drummer Brooks Wackerman — have long occupied a space that stretches beyond metal’s traditional boundaries. Their catalogue moves between metalcore roots, classic heavy metal influences and arena-sized hard rock, a shift that has seen them evolve into one of the defining bands of their era.
Often grouped among the “Big Four” of 2000s metal alongside Slipknot, Lamb of God and System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold have built a reputation on scale — both in sound and presentation. Their records lean into theatricality, matched by live shows that favour precision, spectacle and sheer volume.
This tour sees them joined by Coheed and Cambria, whose progressive leanings and narrative-driven approach add a different texture to the bill, while Melbourne’s Thornhill open the shows, bringing a more contemporary edge to the lineup.
The run kicks off at Qudos Bank Arena on Friday, 16 October, before heading to Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Sunday, 18 October, Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday, 20 October, and wrapping at Spark Arena in Auckland on Friday, 23 October.
