Following a run of sold-out performances and strong demand from audiences around the country, Diesel has announced a new spring edition of his ongoing BY REQUEST tour, taking the audience-driven concept to 22 venues across regional New South Wales and Victoria throughout September, October and November.

Unlike a conventional greatest hits set, BY REQUEST places the evening firmly in the hands of the crowd, with fans invited to submit songs they want to hear before each show, including cover versions. Drawing from a catalogue that stretches back more than four decades, the format has transformed each performance into something unique, with unexpected selections sitting alongside familiar favourites.

The tour begins at Newcastle’s Playhouse, Civic Theatre on September 4 before making its way through Singleton, Queanbeyan, Griffith, Milton, Bega, Daylesford, Echuca, Bendigo, Ballarat and Cowes, concluding in Bathurst on November 28.

“The longer we do these shows, the more I realise just how much fun it is handing over the reins,” Diesel said. “I love the light and shade that the requests are bringing to my show, from Hendrix to Gershwin. Getting to play a classic like ‘Moon River’ and ‘Stay’ by Rihanna was not on my bingo card before BY REQUEST.”

He added: “I’m thrilled to be visiting more parts of regional NSW and VIC. This show has proven to be a deep well of exploration and connection and, after decades of live performances, I feel we share the same tastes too.”

Operating under the Diesel name, American-born, Australian-based musician Mark Lizotte has spent decades building one of the country’s most enduring careers. First emerging with Johnny Diesel & The Injectors in the late 1980s, he has gone on to collect multiple ARIA Awards, release a succession of charting albums and register more than 400 songs with APRA.

His most recent studio album, Bootleg Melancholy, once again demonstrated the breadth of his songwriting, while BY REQUEST continues to offer audiences a chance to revisit every corner of a catalogue that encompasses rock, blues, soul, pop and roots music.
