More than a decade after their last Australian visit, Home Brew are finally heading back across the Tasman. The iconic Aotearoa hip-hop collective have announced an October return, bringing one of New Zealand rap’s most influential catalogues back to local stages.
The tour will see Home Brew perform their celebrated Last Week EP in full, alongside a career-spanning selection of fan favourites. For longtime followers, it offers a rare chance to revisit the group’s formative material live, while introducing a new generation to a collective whose influence continues to ripple through New Zealand hip-hop.
When Home Brew emerged in the late 2000s, they stood apart from their contemporaries. Their sharp storytelling, offbeat humour and unfiltered social commentary helped redefine what hip-hop from Aotearoa could sound like. That momentum culminated with their self-titled debut album in 2012, which debuted at No. 1 on the New Zealand Albums Chart, becoming the country’s first homegrown hip-hop album to top the charts since Scribe’s The Crusader nearly a decade earlier.
Critical recognition soon followed. The group were shortlisted for the Critics Choice Prize at the New Zealand Music Awards before taking home Best Urban/Hip Hop Album for their debut. The record also earned a coveted shortlist spot for the Taite Music Prize, cementing Home Brew as one of the defining acts of a new era in New Zealand music.
