Inspiral Carpets are heading back Down Under, with the Manchester favourites bringing The Singles Tour to Australia and New Zealand in April and May 2027.
Part of the Madchester explosion alongside The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets carved out their own corner of the movement with big choruses, vocal harmonies and the unmistakable churn of Clint Boon’s organ. Then there were those Cool as Fuck T-shirts, practically compulsory indie uniform in the early ’90s and an excellent way of irritating your parents.
The Singles Tour does exactly what it says on the tin. ‘This Is How It Feels’, ‘Saturn 5’, ‘She Comes in the Fall’, ‘Joe’ and ‘Dragging Me Down’ are all on the agenda, stripping the set back to the songs that made Inspiral Carpets such a formidable singles band.
The band returned to Australia in 2023, selling out a number of dates, and have continued packing venues across the UK and Europe since reuniting. Boon reckons they are playing better than ever, with the band clearly enjoying this latest chapter rather than simply going through the motions.
The 2027 run begins at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel on April 29 before hitting Freo.Social, The Gov in Adelaide, Brisbane’s The Triffid, Sydney’s Metro Theatre and Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre. They then cross the Tasman for Wellington’s San Fran on May 12. Time to dig out the old T-shirt and ocate the bucket hat.
