Twenty-five years after Bleed American helped redefine alternative rock, Jimmy Eat World are returning to Australia for a headline tour celebrating the landmark album in full. The Arizona outfit will perform in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane this December, marking their first Australian headline run since 2017 and the final performances anywhere in the world dedicated to the album’s 25th anniversary.
Originally released on 24 July 2001, Bleed American captured the band at a creative high point and produced a run of songs that have become fixtures of alternative rock. From the explosive title track and the soaring Sweetness to the communal singalong of A Praise Chorus and the crossover success of The Middle, the album established Jimmy Eat World as one of the defining voices of the era. The Middle went on to top Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart, reach No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 during a remarkable 33-week run, earn Platinum certification in the United States and, in 2024, join Spotify’s Billions Club.
The album’s influence has only grown with time. Its blend of melodic precision, emotional openness and guitar-driven immediacy can be heard throughout a generation of artists that followed, with bands including Paramore, The Wonder Years, The Maine and Hot Mulligan citing Jimmy Eat World as a formative influence. Its songwriting has also become a blueprint for artists seeking to balance intimacy with arena-sized hooks.
Australian audiences can expect Bleed American performed in its entirety alongside a career-spanning selection of favourites. Rather than simply revisiting the past, the band are approaching these anniversary performances with renewed perspective, presenting an expanded live production that reflects 25 years of growth while celebrating the record that changed everything.
Beyond the studio, Jimmy Eat World have remained one of alternative rock’s most reliable live acts, appearing at major festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds, When We Were Young, Southside and Hurricane, while also performing on Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In 2024, their hometown recognised their contribution to Arizona’s musical legacy by officially declaring 17 October as Jimmy Eat World Day in Phoenix.
The band’s most recent release, the 2025 EP Something(s) Loud, demonstrated that Jimmy Eat World remain firmly focused on the present, continuing to refine the thoughtful songwriting and melodic craftsmanship that has defined their career for more than three decades.
Joining Jimmy Eat World on all Australian dates are special guests Ruby Fields and A. Swayze & The Ghosts, rounding out a bill that pairs one of alternative rock’s most enduring bands with two of Australia’s most exciting live acts.
Tickets go on sale at 11am local time on Thursday 16 July. Go HERE for ticketing information.
