King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have never been a band interested in doing things the conventional way, and their latest Australian announcement is another reminder that predictability has never been part of the equation. This September, the Melbourne six-piece will stage three completely different performances across two days, two towns and two distinct musical worlds, giving fans a rare opportunity to experience the band’s restless creativity at full stretch.
The run begins with an intimate regional stop at Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul, where King Gizzard will perform alongside special guests Xiao Xiao. It’s a rare chance for Illawarra fans to catch one of Australia’s most adventurous live acts outside the capital cities, and in a venue perfectly suited to the band’s more immersive side.
The following day shifts the action to Sydney for the aptly named Rock ‘n’ Roll n’ Rave Roadshow. First comes a full-scale headline concert at the Hordern Pavilion before the band crosses the road to Liberty Hall for a late-night rave, delivering a second performance that promises to lean into the electronic experimentation that has increasingly become part of King Gizzard’s ever-expanding universe.
