You know we like a bit of Low around these parts. The Duluth, MN-based duo of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker are on a hot streak at the moment, with their last two albums Ones & Sixes and Double Negative regarded as career highlights. Incidentally the pair worked with BJ Burton for those, and it’s a partnership they’re revisiting for album 13, HEY WHAT, due in September.
The band released lead single ‘Days Like These’ last month, as well as announcing a UK and Europe run next year – check out our post on the song for all the details – and next to be lifted from the record is the unsettling ‘Disappearing’; beautiful, as ever, but as its three minutes unfold, it’s increasingly occupied, and finally overwhelmed by crunching distortion in its dying moments. The accompanying clip is equally remarkable; directed by Dorian Wood, who reflects on the process thus: “I borrowed a friend’s empty guest room and twice a week I would set up my laptop and lights and pose for three hours at a time. During these long stretches of time, I’d lose myself in thought while delivering poses that best showcased all this fat brown beauty. In my mind, I traveled to places and memories, and in the case of ‘Disappearing’, I not only visited the ocean in my mind, I became it.“
