Emerging from Bristol in the late 1980s, the Massive Attack helped redefine the possibilities of electronic music, blending hip-hop, dub, soul, ambient textures and political urgency into something entirely their own. Now, after a 15-year absence from Australian stages, Massive Attack are finally set to return.
Frontier Touring has announced three exclusive Australian headline dates for August 2026, marking the influential group’s first local performances since 2010. The tour will see the band perform at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on August 6, Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on August 9 and Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on August 11.
Formed in 1988 by Robert “3D” Del Naja, Grant “Daddy G” Marshall, Adrian “Tricky” Thaws and Andrew “Mushroom” Vowles, Massive Attack quickly became one of the defining acts of the era. While the group’s line-up has evolved over the decades, Del Naja and Marshall remain at its core, continuing to carry forward a catalogue that has left an unmistakable mark on contemporary music.
The term “trip-hop” has often followed Massive Attack throughout their career, though their influence extends well beyond any single genre. Albums such as Blue Lines, Protection and Mezzanine helped establish a blueprint that countless artists would later draw from, while tracks including Unfinished Sympathy, Safe From Harm, Teardrop and Angel remain touchstones of modern music.
This will be Massive Attack’s fourth visit to Australia and, given the length of time since their last appearance, these dates are likely to attract attention from longtime fans and newer listeners eager to experience one of modern music’s most influential live acts. Fifteen years is a long wait, but for a band whose work has proven remarkably timeless, the return feels overdue rather than late.
