Milan-born and London-based alt-rock artist Nico Cann continues his ascent with the release of his stirring new single, ‘Take Me To The River’, alongside news of an upcoming UK tour with The Rifles.
At just 22 years old, Nico Cann is carving out a sound that feels both timeless and immediate. Raised on classical piano while immersed in the influence of iconic rock bands, his music balances emotional vulnerability with widescreen ambition. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Sam Fender, Nico blends the heart and warmth of ‘70s and ‘80s rock with a fresh indie edge, delivering songs that are deeply personal yet built for communal release.
That balance is perfectly realised on ‘Take Me To The River’, a cinematic and emotionally charged new offering taken from his forthcoming debut album Silver Lining. Written, performed, and largely produced by Nico himself, the project marks a defining moment for the young songwriter as he steps confidently into his own artistic identity.
Driven by expansive keys, sharp-edged guitar lines, and pounding drums, ‘Take Me To The River’ channels the spirit of classic arena rock while remaining rooted in modern introspection. Nico’s charismatic vocal performance carries the track’s emotional core, navigating themes of heartbreak, uncertainty, and self-reflection with striking honesty.
The single captures the tension between youthful confusion and optimism, pairing analog warmth with soaring production and sincere songwriting. It’s a sound that feels ambitious without losing its authenticity, a quality that has quickly become central to Nico’s appeal both on record and on stage.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Nico explains: “I began writing ‘Take Me to the River’ three years ago. The song went through multiple iterations and changes, especially lyrically. Like many of the other songs I’m writing for my debut project, Silver Lining, this one analyses a moment of feeling lost, or better, the limbo of uncertainty right after a breakup. ‘Should I call her, should I find my way?’ The song was conceived as a dialogue between myself and a taxi driver. I’m asking him to literally take me to the river, the river Thames, because I see the river as a place of meditation, somewhere I could seek answers and reflect upon my choices, the past, and the future.”
With an upcoming UK tour alongside The Rifles set to introduce his music to even wider audiences, Nico Cann is rapidly emerging as one of the most compelling new voices in alternative rock, an artist capable of turning deeply personal experiences into anthems that resonate far beyond himself.
