Making a return to the limelight for the first time in over a year, ruben dumars is back with ‘Hurt Hearts’ featuring Agent Sixx. Following a breakout run of releases including ‘Coup de Grace’, the new single sees Dumars refining and expanding his genre-blurring approach, delivering a bold statement of intent for his next chapter.
‘Hurt Hearts’ wastes no time establishing its atmosphere, opening with a synth-laden atmospherics that quickly gives way to a hypnotic flow. The track balances a raw hip-hop spirit with an experimental edge, anchored by an old-school backbeat that threads through its modern, alternative-leaning, lo-fi and ethereal production. Dumars’ signature style is evident throughout, as textured instrumentation and layered sonics create a sound that feels both nostalgic and forward-facing.
Agent Sixx’s contribution adds a sharp dynamic to the record, elevating the track’s energy while complementing Dumars’ intricate production. The collaboration feels organic yet unpredictable, mirroring the song’s wider approach of fusing contrasting elements into a cohesive whole.
Speaking on the creation process, Dumars explained: “I recorded the music before I met Agent Sixx and had CJ write different versions that I remixed and hodge podged it into the song you hear today. Honestly, I really like the outcome of it in the end. The song was done really quickly but releasing it has been a nightmare and a complete different story.”
With ‘Hurt Hearts’, ruben dumars continues to push the boundaries of alternative music-making, merging hip-hop influences with a fearless experimental streak, setting the tone for more new music in 2026.
