News: Skindred Announce Biggest Ever Australian Headline Tour

Skindred are heading back this September for what’s being billed as their biggest ever Australian headline tour, bringing their hybridised brand of ragga metal chaos from Perth through to Brisbane.

Opening in Perth on September 1 before moving through Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, the run closes in Brisbane on September 6. For a band whose reputation has largely been forged in the furnace of live performance, the headline format feels long overdue.

Formed in Newport, Wales in the late 90s, Skindred have built a catalogue that refuses neat categorisation. Reggae, punk, hip hop, nu metal and electronica are all folded into a sound that has always felt both combustible and calculated. Debut album Babylon in 2002 set the blueprint. Eight studio albums later, that template has only grown more elastic.

Their ninth record, You Got This, arrives April 17 and continues the momentum of 2023’s Smile. Produced alongside Grammy-winning Jay Ruston, the album reportedly leans into dancehall inflections without sacrificing the band’s capacity for blunt-force riffing. In a live setting, those contrasts have historically translated into something closer to organised turbulence than straightforward rock show.

Frontman Benji Webbe remains the focal point, a ringmaster figure whose presence has anchored Skindred through countless festival slots and support runs alongside heavyweights such as Korn and Rob Zombie. Their recent appearance at Knotfest Australia in 2024 reinforced that reputation, with local reviews highlighting a performance that cut cleanly through a stacked bill.

Skindred’s shows have long operated on a principle of unity through volume. Expect a set that moves between tightly coiled grooves and explosive choruses, with material from You Got This sitting comfortably alongside older staples. If their track record is any guide, September won’t be subtle.
