News: South African Rapper Sampaule Is Working On New Material

Sampaule

Paul-Samuel Reeder, better known as SAMPAULE (pronounced “Sample”) is a queer Afrikaans rapper who originates from Kimberly in South Africa. SAMPAULE delivers a unique perspective on Afrikaans culture and identity, as someone who’s experienced imposter syndrome in their own culture.

“I’m making music for 16-year-old me. The kind of outlet I needed as a misunderstood kid. Something to relate to and somewhere to belong”.

SAMPAULE

SAMPAULE first came to attention in 2020 with Texx and the City naming his debut single and video ‘die ANDERKANT’ one of the top Indie newcomers for that year.

SAMPAULE is currently working on 2 songs with Peach van Pletzen and a music video with André Badenhorst and Alan Sayers (Early B, Parlotones, Francois van Coke). Backseat Mafia can also reveal that he is planning to release two EPs in 2024.

He tells us that they will form part of his Klein Dorp Sindroom (Small town Syndrome) concept/era. He says that the first EP will have a darker sound, and describes it as “a sonic mix of Inspo taken from Jaden (Erys), Machine Gun Kelly and Twenty one pilots.” The second EP will be more upbeat and have a pop-punk vibe (still rap though) with some hyperpop elements.

“I want to create a safe space for people like me: the misfits, rejects and broken hearted, whilst also composing ear worms for the rest of the public to make them aware and sympathetic to the issues of mental health and discrimination that my friends and I have had to face.”

SAMPAULE

Through his art, Sampaule crafts a sanctuary where diversity is celebrated, and voices marginalised by mainstream narratives find a powerful echo. His influence extends beyond music, inspiring individuals within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond, making him not just a talented rapper but a beacon of hope and change in the fight for a more inclusive world.
