Australia’s largest regional touring music festival has secured its future in Victoria, with Spilt Milk confirming Geelong/Djilang as its home for the next five years. Backed by Visit Victoria and the City of Greater Geelong, the festival will remain in the region until at least 2030, cementing its status as one of the state’s biggest cultural events outside Melbourne.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for a festival that has steadily expanded since arriving in Victoria in 2019. After four successful editions in neighbouring Ballarat, Spilt Milk is now establishing long-term roots in Geelong, continuing its mission of proving that major music festivals can thrive beyond Australia’s capital cities.
The numbers underline the festival’s growing impact. Across four Victorian editions, Spilt Milk has contributed more than $46.7 million to the state’s economy, with the 2025 festival, headlined by Kendrick Lamar, generating $17.2 millionalone. More than 34,000 visitors travelled from outside the region for last year’s event, while attendance has climbed from just under 29,000 in 2019 to almost 39,000 in 2025.
For Victoria, the festival has become more than a music event. It aligns closely with the state’s strategy of encouraging younger travellers to regional destinations, with almost two-thirds of interstate and regional visitors aged between 18 and 24. That economic benefit has been matched by strong local support, with survey results showing every Victorian attendee questioned in 2025 believed the festival enhanced community life.
Spilt Milk has also maintained a strong commitment to Australian artists. Of the 43 acts on last year’s lineup, 33 were Australian, including 15 Victorian artists and five performers drawn from within 100 kilometres of the festival site. That balance between international headliners and local talent has become one of the festival’s defining strengths since launching in 2016.
Having previously hosted artists including Kendrick Lamar, Doechii, Post Malone, Lorde, Childish Gambino, Dom Dolla, Steve Lacy, Flume, Latto and Khalid, Spilt Milk has grown into one of Australia’s most anticipated annual festivals.
Attention now turns to the 2026 lineup, which organisers say will be revealed soon. With Geelong now confirmed as its Victorian base through the end of the decade, Spilt Milk enters its next chapter with a permanent home and continued ambitions to redefine what a regional music festival can achieve.
