More than five decades after they first emerged from South London, Squeeze are heading back to Australia. The British songwriting institution will return next April with the Tried, Tested and Trixies Tour, celebrating a catalogue that has become one of the defining bodies of work in British pop while showcasing material from their latest album, Trixies.

Formed in 1974 by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, Squeeze have long occupied a space alongside Britain’s great songwriters. Their sharp observations of everyday life, melodic precision and unmistakable chemistry have produced enduring classics including ‘Up the Junction’, ‘Cool for Cats’, ‘Tempted’, ‘Another Nail in My Heart’ and ‘Labelled with Love’, songs that continue to resonate decades after their release.

The Australian tour follows the arrival of Trixies, released earlier this year. The album occupies a unique place in the band’s history, reviving songs Difford and Tilbrook originally wrote as teenagers at the very beginning of their partnership. Rediscovered from an original cassette five decades later, the material has finally been realised by a band whose experience now matches the ambition of those youthful compositions. Produced by bassist Owen Biddle, Trixiesoffers a fascinating glimpse into the earliest chapters of one of Britain’s most celebrated songwriting partnerships.

Since reforming in 2007, Squeeze have played more than 600 shows, their live performances continuing to earn praise for their warmth, musicianship and effortless delivery. The 2027 Australian dates will feature Glenn Tilbrook alongside Owen Biddle, Steve Smith, Stephen Large, Simon Hanson, Leon Tilbrook and Danica Dora, bringing both the band’s latest material and the songs that have defined its legacy.

Tickets on early bird presale from 10am local time, Wednesday 29 July and general on sale from Friday 31 July, 10am local time.
