News: Wiebke Shines On Intimate And Beautiful Debut Album ‘Space In Between’

German singer-songwriter and producer Wiebke releases the stunning debut album Space In Between.

An eight-track journey that fuses elements of jazz, soul and folk with elegant, melancholic, poetic songwriting, Space In Between is a masterclass in song-craft from a unquestionably talented artist. As comparable to Joan Armatrading as it is to Joni Mitchel and the more recent releases from Lucy Rose, Wiebke truly shines across the record.

Hailing from Leipzig, Wiebke has steadily cultivated a loyal following drawn to her emotive sound and lyrical honesty. Space In Between is a natural evolution of her 2023 debut EP Flow and 2024 single ‘Scandals’, offering a richer, more expansive glimpse into her sonic world. Where those earlier efforts hinted at introspection, ‘Space In Between’ dives in headfirst, navigating the fragility and resilience of the human experience.

The album delivers a sequence of heartfelt and painstakingly arranged tracks that sway between vulnerability and empowerment. There’s a quiet power to Wiebke’s songwriting—every track pulses with emotional intent, layered atop contemplative rhythms and soul-infused instrumentation. Her background as a multi-instrumentalist adds depth to the production, while her roots in spoken word echo through the poetic precision of her lyrics.

Diving into the album’s emotional architecture, Wiebke shares: “I hope that this album can contribute to the healing of our scars. It’s a reminder of how powerful the Space In Between can be. As an architecture of relating to life and people, but also one’s own inner experience. There is intelligence in knowing, as well as in not knowing. There is a power in seeing, as well as in not seeing. And when we can agree to them both we already create space for the in-between. A space to experience life within the dark and the light.”

It’s this philosophical, soul-searching spirit that defines her artistry. Space In Between doesn’t shy away from discomfort—it leans into it, exploring themes of pain, transformation, and the nuanced terrain between clarity and confusion. Yet even at its most intimate, the album never loses its warmth. Wiebke’s voice, both literal and metaphorical, is a steady guide through moments of darkness and light.

Live, Wiebke brings a similar energy to the stage. Her performances are less concerts than emotional immersions, blending dance, improvisation, and song into an intimate exchange with the audience. With Space In Between, Wiebke captures this feel perfectly on a selection of tracks which are varied, musically rich and beautifully delivered.
