Premiere: CDSM crash in with debut album Convertible Hearse, out tomorrow

If you’ve been keeping an eye Atlanta scene over the past few years, there’s a high chance you’ll have heard of sextet CDSM – or, to give them their full title, Celebrity Death Slot Machine, who came bursting out of the traps in early 2022 and have scarcely slowed down since. Their propulsive, brooding post-punk style is attention-grabbing, tackling serious topics while skirting dourness, tipping their collective hat to darkwave along the way.

Their debut album lands at midnight and it is (a purely scientific term) an absolute heater, further building on the promise displayed on debut EP Hell Stairs and subsequent releases. We’re premiering the entire thing over here, ramping off the release of closing track ‘Shockable Rhythm’ as the album’s final single; which in typically intense fashion, documents a near-fatal car crash.

Get your ears round ‘Shockable Rhythm’ and Convertible Hearse itself, an album described by the band as ‘precisely the soundtrack you would expect to hear in such a vehicle. Unabashedly loud, danceable and decrepit, fun and freakish, it is the perfect road companion for driving around a very sexy topless van that may or may not have a nameless corpse riding in the back.’ The album’s out tomorrow via Mothland/EXAG’.
