Premiere: Macedo return with the effortlessly cool ‘Block of Ice’

If it seems like the eponymous Los Angeles duo Macedo have been away for a while, that’s because they have. The pair of Michelle and Melissa Macedo last released an EP called Paradise in 2021, with plans to release further new music remaining up in the air as a knock-on effect of the pandemic. Until now, that is. More than two years later, their first new offering since that collection arrives tomorrow.

Traces of their earlier work can be found in ‘Block of Ice’, but the duo are intent on shaking up their sound on a refreshing synth-pop track that explores the feeling of simply being around someone you love. It was inspired by 2020 being a year mostly spent in enforced isolation: “During the pandemic we all had so much time with our thoughts and our phones. Sitting and waiting for the world to normalize. A lot of people were very lonely and felt isolated. We think everyone can relate to the feeling of wanting to be with your loved ones so badly and not being able to. We hope the song emboldens people to prioritize healthy relationships in their life and to surround themselves with people who love and respect them.”

Keep an eye out for more new music from Macedo before the end of the year – we’ve got your first listen of ‘Block of Ice’ below via its lyric video.
