Premiere: Stream Darker Lighter’s massive self-titled debut album

We told you there was more to come from Los Angeles artist Salar Rajabnik, aka Darker Lighter, and here it is: his self-titled debut album. He’s worked with the likes of Kim Gordon and Queens of the Stone Age, picking up a few things along the way, and poured it all into a deeply personal and invigorating 12-song record.

Arriving alongside the video for flagship single ‘Be’, we’re premiering the entire album ahead of release, and couldn’t be more excited to share it with you if we tried. A cathartic and affecting record from first note to last, Rajabnik’s no-frills approach to songwriting is refreshingly direct.

He says of ‘Be’: “It’s about a feeling I get often; which is that I find myself feeling out of place. Whether ideologically, artistically or socially, often due to being unwilling to compromise my identity or principles. Themes of biculturalism, socio-political alienation, the fallout and consequences of activism and more influenced the meaning of the tune. The ultimate conclusion of the song is that ‘the price you pay is who you have to be.’

Watch the video for ‘Be’ and stream the entire Darker Lighter record below; it’s out everywhere at midnight.
