We are honoured to premiere the new single ‘Rose City’ from Naarm/Melbourne supergroup The Silversound with a membership that reads like a who’s who of the Australian rock scene.

The band consists of Shane O’Mara, guitarist, has played/recorded with Paul Kelly, Tim Rogers, Lisa Miller, Rob Snarski, Chris Wilson and many more. Andrew Tanner (vocals, guitar) is a founding member of Seven Stories and with Leroy Cope (drums) key member of psyche band Sand Pebbles and The Woodland Hunters. Multi-instrumentalist Stu Thomas (bass) is a member of Kim Salmon and the Surrealists, Dave Graney & the Mistly, and he fronts his voodoo surf band The Stu Thomas Paradox.

The quality and experience seeps through every note in the blistering hazy fugue of psychedelia that is ‘Rose City’, with guitars that shimmer like the light in the desert, a sonic mirage that shape shifts with layered dreamy harmonies. It’s like a someone threw Brian Jonestown Massacre into a bubbling pot with The Dandy Warhols and every sixties psychedelic band you can think of, and added healthy doses of illicit chemical substances and filtered sunshine.

The song, a first taste of the band’s forthcoming second album, ‘Rose City’, is a sonic love letter from The Silversound to Rose City Band from Portland with vivid, poetic lyrics:

Rise, burning colours in the sky
Shine, like diamonds in our eyes
We roll around the sun
Stumble, skip and run
We follow our hearts
Broken bleeding and numb
Rose City sing for us
Set our souls on fire
Rose City play for us
Take us higher

It’s ten minutes of a mesmerising sonic massage that sends you into the sort of dreamy fugue you would normally pay a lot of money for to some shady character in a back alleyway. The outro thunders like a desert storm and you’re left slightly reeling from the high. It’s terrific stuff:

‘Rose City’ is out tomorrow through the marvelous Cheersquad Records & Tapes and you can catch the band launching the single next month in Melbourne:

The Union Hotel in Brunswick, VIC
Saturday, December 13 @ 8:30 PM
