Today Backseat Mafia is premiering the new video for “Swords and Knives,” lifted from The Maggie Pills’ new album Hearts Enduring Lingering Loss, out 22 August via Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

Pre-order Hearts Enduring Loss HERE.

Formed in Naarm/Melbourne in 2019 by Argentinian frontwoman Delfi Sorondo and Venezuelan drummer Mario Perez, The Maggie Pills have carved out a jagged corner of post-punk that thrives on tension and release. Produced by Perez alongside Brad Jackson, their sophomore record continues to channel grit and melancholy into songs that feel both immediate and unflinching.

At its centre sits “Swords and Knives” – a storm-lit reflection on love’s arrival and collapse. Its video, shot on a single handycam across shifting daylight, is a bleak fable about a vampire girl who knows she won’t live to see nightfall. Directed by Perez and cut by Sam Mapplebeck (Tropical Fuck Storm, Amyl and The Sniffers), it carries the band’s fascination with inevitability, grief and fleeting beauty.

To mark the album release, The Maggie Pills will play shows at The Night Cat and Brunswick Ballroom, adding to an impressive list of stages that includes Northcote Social Club, The Curtin, Max Watts, The Croxton and Shotkickers. They’ve also shared lineups with Black Lips, Shihad, Cable Ties, The Meanies, Battlesnake, The Mark Of Cain and Private Function – all pointing to a group that has quickly made their presence felt in Melbourne’s underground.

THE MAGGIE PILLS UPCOMING TOUR DATES

FRI 17 OCT | THE NIGHT CAT, NAARM/MELBOURNE VIC
SAT 22 NOV | THE BRUNSWICK BALLROOM, NAARM/MELBOURNE VIC
