PREMIERE: The Rare Occasions are ‘Seasick’ on first new song of 2022

You may have heard The Rare Occasions already without knowing it; the Los Angeles trio released an album a little over a year ago called Big Whoop, which, contrary to its nonchalant title, has been doing plenty to put them on the map. It’s not even a song off that album that’s been doing the heavy lifting. Care to guess where they’ve blown up?

If you guessed TikTok, you’re absolutely correct. ‘Notion’, from their 2016 debut album Futureproof, took off on the platform last year. They’re riding a wave of unexpected momentum, but if you came for their six-year-old sleeper hit, you should definitely stay for the new stuff. Case in point: new track ‘Seasick’ is almost unfairly catchy. It’s a song about taking a moment to remember how far you’ve come when things get tough, and these three know a thing or two about resilience.

The first song to be lifted from an as-yet-untitled new EP, due out in the autumn, ‘Seasick’ encapsulates a lot of what The Rare Occasions have already proven they’re very good at, while also offering us a brief glimpse into their future. We’re premiering it (it’s out tomorrow) and it’s got incredible replay value. Hear it for yourself below:
